Hidden Forest Mural 2021
Greenside House Wood Green N22 London UK
Inspired by a secret woodland grown along an abandoned railway track between a strip of houses behind Greenside House. Painted by hand with interior paint. Commissioned by Castleforge Partners and Hawkins Brown and Collage Arts
The Job kicked off in October/ November 2020
The client was keen to bring an element of local nature into the building so I started to visit all the local green spaces with my sketch book. When looking at the map I could see a strip of green running up behind Greenside House but could not find any public access to it.
I became very curious about it.
The designs took various twist and turns and it wasn’t until I revisited the building in early January2021, while looking out from the upper floor that I noticed again, the mysterious wood. I mentioned it to the architect who told about the old railway line. And at that’s moment I knew that was the way forward for the commission.
The mural took about 10days to paint . We used household interior paint.
I enjoyed the temporary studio we created on the scaffolding and I got fitter with all the climbing up and down also I found mural painting to be physical challenging , finding myself on my belly painting between the floors of the scaffold and being super careful not to bash my head into the ceiling fittings.
The whole job felt like an accomplishment and I’m delighted with the result. And would love to do more.
